Make a timeline that shows Native American people who have lived or now lived in Oklahoma.  Draw a picture that shows an important fact about the way they lived.

On a blank map of Oklahoma, draw in all of these: Arbuckle Mountains, Ozark Plateau, Wichita Mountains, Kiamichi Mountains, Black Mesa, Red River, Canadian River, Arkansas River, Lake Texoma, Lake Eufaula, and Lake Tenkiller, Grand Lake of the Cherokees, and the Great Salt Plains.

Then tell which one you’d like to visit and why.

These three people are famous, and all of them visited Oklahoma:  Coronado, George Catlin, Washington Irving.  Find out why they are famous.  Find out about their visits to Oklahoma.  Be prepared to tell the class what you found.

Read about one of these people: Sequoyah, Bill Pickett, Jim Thorpe, the Kiowa Six (formerly the Kiowa Five), Will Rogers, Wiley Post, Woody Guthrie, Clara Luper, Wilma Mankiller, Gordon Cooper, Shannon Lucid, Mickey Mantle, Carl Albert, and the Five Ballerinas.

Use the Comic Creator or the BioCube to tell about their life and why Oklahoma is proud of them.

Find a blank picture of the Oklahoma flag and color it correctly.  Then tell your class what each symbol on the flag means.

Read about how early Native Americans used natural resources like the buffalo to survive.  Then write a story about what happened when the buffalo began to disappear.

Have you ever heard of the Dust Bowl?  Read about it here.   Then, look at these pictures: http://www.historyplace.com/unitedstates/lange/index.html

Fill out the Thinking Triangle about your favorite.  Be prepared to tell the class what you discovered by studying the pictures.

Tahlequah is the end of the Trail of Tears.  Find out what happened.  Pretend that you were one of the people who walked on the trail.  Since you haven’t learned to write yet, you must tell your story orally.  Act it out or, write a story that has many repeated lines so that people can remember it.  (We walked in the cold…night after night…we gave up our homes…we didn’t fight)

Find out about cowboy life and cattle drives along the Chisholm Trail.  Construct a diorama that will help your classmates learn about it.
